Raymond Yau is a retired Navy Commander (CDR) who has served for 21 years. Currently he is the Financial advisor in training with Forthright Capital Partners. Prior to retirement from the US Navy, he was assigned as the Waterfront Readiness Supply Officer and TYCOM Material Inspection Team SUP/HAB lead inspector at COMNAVSURFPAC. In this role, he is responsible for improving the material readiness for all US Naval Vessels in the Pacific theater.
CDR Yau is a Hong Kong, Chinese native who graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2001 with a Master of Education degree. He was commissioned in 2003 through Officer Candidate School as an Ensign in the Navy Supply Corps. He graduated from Colorado State University with an MBA in 2010. He also earned a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island in 2014.
His Supply Corps sea duty assignments include, Disbursing and Sales Officer onboard USS BENFOLD (DDG 65) while she deployed for 277 days in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom off the coast of Persian Gulf and 5th Fleet AOR; Supply Officer onboard USS CLEVELAND (LPD 7) while she deployed for 147 days in support of PACIFIC PARTNERSHIP 2011 in South Pacific Regions and its decommission soon after.
Shore assignments include Site Director of the NAVSUP Fleet Logistic Center, San Diego – El Centro, CA; Contract Administrator for the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA), Picatinny Arsenal, NJ. While he was in DCMA, he was deployed to Northern Afghanistan for 6 months as the Lead Contract Administrator for the Logistics Civil Augmentation Program (LOGCAP), managing its transition process from KBR to FLUOR. Prior of assigning to COMNAVSURFPAC, CDR Yau was a Financial planner at United States Africa Command, Logistics Engagements & Exercises Branch. He was responsible for improving the logistics capacity and capability for our African Partners.
He has earned supply warfare qualifications in surface warfare. His professional certifications include the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) Level 2 in Contracting and DAWIA Level 1 in Program Management, Quality Assurance and Life Cycle Logistics. Personal awards include Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medals, Navy Commendation Medals, Joint Service Achievement Medals, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals and various unit citations, campaign medals and service medals. He is a member of the Department of Navy Acquisition Professional Community and a fully accomplished Joint Duty Qualified Officer. After retirement, he has obtained Licenses in Financial services and Life and Heath Insurance services by passing series of exams.
Currently, CDR Yau is married with two children residing in San Diego, CA.
